You'll get a notice in your P.O. Box about 10 days before it's due. (Usually, about the 20th of your last month) So, that's about 20 days before it automatically closes. We're not required to put out second notices anymore. So, don't let automatic closure happen to you. Many people have already lost their P.O. Box because they just weren't checking their P. O. Box often enough to see that their rent due notice was in their box. The post office automatically closes your P. O. Box on the 11th day of the following month when your rent is due. And on this day, we're suppose to return all your first class mail to sender as "unclaimed mail," but I usually hold it til the end of the month anyway. And on the 30th of the following month, WEBBATS tells us that your box is irreversably, officially closed, and that's a fact. We'll have to start all over. We cannot re-instate your P.O. Box without changing the locks and having you re-apply and having you pay an additional $7.00 for new keys. This use to be an easy fix on a late payment, but not anymore. The post office will held the mail for several days until you remedied the situation. I'm sure you'll be fine for a matter of days, but a matter of a week or more may not work, the the package will be sent back.
