How do you prepare a home before adopting a puppy?

So I checked my local shelter and I found a puppy! I wanted a bloodhound but they didn't have one or even a mix. So I looked around and I found the next best thing! A MUTT! I fell in love eith this little shaggy/wrinkly puppy! The lady I talked to said to come back in a week or 2 after she is spayed. A month ago I had my 1 acre yard fenced in just for a doggy. I pet proofed my house & bought a few baby gates. I also purchased some science diet puppy food, some teething toys, a kennel and dog bed, and training treats. Do you guys think I am forgetting anything? And any name suggestions? TIA

Collar, leash, brushes, nail clippers, shampoo and perhaps a good book on care and raising of puppies. You might also want to educate yourself on dog nutrition as Science Diet is among the worst foods on the market. A good food has MEAT as the first ingredient and none of the cheap fillers that are hard for dogs to digest and a major cause of food allergies - corn, wheat, beet pulp and sorghum are the worst offenders.

Names are personal - owners need to choose their own, often after they've gotten to know the puppy a little bit.

Add to all of that a bag of whatever the shelter is feeding her so you can gradually transition her to the new food. Otherwise you'll have what my family calls "slurpee" poo. It's just what it sounds like. No one wants that lol

You did not mention a CRATE for crate training, which also helps with house-breaking and the prevention of the DESTRUCTION of the home, via PUPPY TEETH.
