Can a Master's student teach an undergraduate course?

There are some PhD students who teach first-year undergrad courses (as contract instructors), so can a Master's student be a course instructor too? Like would a grad student in psychology be able to teach first year psychology or can they only be a TA?

Possibly, but they'd probably give preference to PhD students if they're available - PhD students usually have to do that work to earn their stipends and tuition compensation. Plus, if you haven't had experience as a TA, it's really unlikely that you'd be hired as an instructor.

At a private university anybody can teach a class. There really are no limitations other than the schools have to meet certain standards for accreditation.

Public universities have to meet the guideless developed by the state.

That being said, many grad students do end up teaching 1st year courses as the actual professor (not just as TA)
