Am I somehow at fault for someone hitting my parked car?

0 votes
I was parked in a narrow street with parking only on one side. Someone knocked off my wing mirror (it doesn t fold in) and scratched my car and said I was very far from the curb. My front tire was 7-8 inches from the curb, back tire fine. I believe I was parked legally and my friend passed my car with his hours before and had no problem. A claim was made but I find a way to blame myself for everything. Are there any laws on this stuff?
Update: In my local area, the max legal distance parking from the curb is 12 inches.

As long as you have parked fine and other people passed it without damage or problems. The driver that scratched your car is mainly at fault, he was the driver in view; he had the ability to continue the path, avoid it, or swerve to the of the curb more.
