"Whats the highest power prescription contact lenses eye doctors make?"

well w/o even going custom-made you can go to -12.00. but -25.00 is doable (custom made)

"im a negative 10 in glasses"

not even CLOSE to out of the range for contacts. in fact, these are usually the *best* candidates for contacts

"do any of you guys think i can get contact lenses instead of glasses?"

YES

"also, how much would laser eye surgery cost in the states? would it be wise for me to get laser eye surgery done? im only 18"

-10.00 is probably a little too much for lasik IMO. you'd likely need a phakic-iol or "implantable contact lens"

you need to try contacts. most people over about -4.00 actually see BETTER out of contacts then they do glasses (unless they have a lot of astigmatism). better acuity as well as better overall vision. surprised no one has mentioned it to you yet.

The maximum power for disposable contact lenses are usually manufactured up to -12.00. Some standard contact lenses can go up to 14.oo. However, different brands may have different prescription strengths for contact lenses.

According to the American Optometric Association, most contact lens wearers are nearsighted. Stock brands average from 8 diopters (written as +8.00 for farsighted prescriptions) to 12 diopters (written as -12.00 for nearsighted prescriptions). Different contact lens companies make lenses in various strengths. Your doctor can determine which lens is best for your eyes and whether custom lenses can be prescribed in a higher strength.
