How to tell my mom I had my period?

Okay, so I had been having discharge in my underwear for over the last year. Then 3 days ago I started spotting. Then today, during school I went to the bathroom and saw blood so I freaked out! My period covered most of my underwear and leaked but I covered it up. When I got home from school, I went to my moms bathroom and took some of her pads. I wore then tonight. I had 2 basketball practices and piano and no one found out...During my 2nd basketball practice I wore a pad but when I came home to shower The pad had scrunched up in the middle so there was still blood on the outsides. A lot. Luckily it did not bleed through. So I showed and got ready for bed. I wanted to tell my mom but I just could not. So here I am in bed. How should I tell her. I need to tell her in the morning but I do not know how. How should I tell her? We are very close. We do everything together. It was the same when I tried to ask her if I could shave or wear a bra. She ended up asking me if I was ready. I started shaving like 1 month ago. I can tell my mom anything but I do not know how. Also, when you wipe after you use the bathroom while having your period, should you wipe blood. I did. I wiped blood all day. Anyways, I am in bed now with no pad. What should I do? Will it leak through. How can I tell her?Does spotting count as a period? We I really need help quickly. Thank you all for you time reading this and helping me. I really appreciate it.

Just tell your mom that you have started having periods, and you need some pads. Believe me -- she has been expecting you to begin having periods ever since you entered puberty, and the fact that you finally have won't faze her in the least.

The fact that you say the pad was "scrunched up" in the middle makes me wonder: Did you remember to remove the paper covering from the adhesive strip on the pad before you put it in your panties?

Yes .. when you wipe after you use the bathroom while having your period, you will wipe blood, if you are not using a tampon.

When you're in bed and you have no pad, it probably won't make a mess. You don't usually "bleed" very much while you are lying still and sleeping. If you want, you can put a towel under your hips, to play it safe. In the morning, ask to borrow one of your mom's pads.

"Spotting" can be considered as the first sign of a menstrual period. It is, in fact, your period; the heavy blood flow will be noticeable within a few hours.
