Should I get my daughter a puppy?

My almost 9 year old daughter wants a puppy. She had one before which didn t turn out well because it made messes everywhere she was very responsible about cleaning it up. It might have been taken away from its mother too early. It was very stressful as well, any suggestions.

Perhaps you should try adopting an older dog that will be less likely to make messes and will have grown out of the wild crazy puppy stage. I know this is kind of an odd way to look for a dog but many prisons have programs now where you can adopt a socialized dog that has already had basic command training by the inmates. Its a wonderful program and the dogs available are some of the most well behaved dogs I have ever worked with. please acknowledge though, when you purchase a dog for a child, the dog is still ultimately the parents responsibility. If you are not in a position to take on that responsibility then don't get a dog.
