Is this normal for an antique flash bulb?

0 votes
I just bought an antique Polaroid..."The Swinger "

It came with Sylvania Blue Dot Flashbulbs. God knows how old they are...I loaded one into the port on the camera and tested it in a dark room. Man alive ...what a light that came out of that little thing.

What I wanna know is if it's supposed to look like this: the inside is covered in black speckles. There are huge white blobs along the bottom of the bulb near the plug in. Almost looks like a burn. And when I used it, a bit of steam or smoke came up. The bulb is cracked but not shattered.

Mind you, I'm 20 years old. I've never used flash bulbs. Is it normal for that to happen or should I discontinue using them?
