Who thinks it's rude for a cashier or associate to just say "ok buh bye" when you say "thank you"?

This happened to me when I was registering and paying for a class at the college front office.

If a customer says "thank you" and the worker who helped the customer just says "ok buh bye" it seems like they're saying "alright whatever, just leave" I just feel they should at least throw in a "Thank YOU" or "You're welcome" and/or even "have a good day" when the customer is not only being polite but is also making their job possible and making contribution to their paycheck(s). Thoughts?
