What word class is "used" in? (context-relevant)?

"She used to like blue."

In that sentence, what is used classified as? Is it an adverb because it is indicative of time?

"used to" is what is called a modal verb form (like could or should) and is acting the role as part of the verb. there is a time sense imposed by its use, and thus it is acting as an auxiliary (or helping) verb in defining tense.
