Is 6 hours too long for a dog to stay at home alone for?

0 votes
I am extremely desperate to get a dog but mum says we spend to much time away during the week. I leave to school at 8 and get home around 3. Is this too long? And if so, is there anyway we can make it work? I am 15 years old and have been wanting a dog for 15 years. I am currently going through exams but once they are finished I have 7 weeks of holidays where I could possibly train the dog? Please help!!

Six hours home alone is absolutely too long for a puppy or any younger, untrained dog.
Six hours could be fine for an adult (mature and trained) dog that doesn't have any separation anxiety. Dogs learn our routines, and if you are gone six hours a day, then they learn that is how life is.
